The East-LA psychedelic rock band Levitation Room proudly released their sophomore album Headspace last month. Expanding upon their 1960s freakbeat sound, the band explains, "We didn't want to make an album that sounds exactly like the last one. We wanted to show more of our influences, not just 60s sounds but other tastes as well." The result is a cosmic tapestry of exciting and experimental proportions. Headspace feels like an inspired sound from a band growing in the right direction.

With their new record Headspace, Levitation Room displays their process of maturity in sound and songwriting, exploring new territories of influence in music and instrumentation, combining folk, jazz, raga, soul, r&b, pop and of course… psychedelia.

The group curated a playlist based off of their inspirations below. Listen and read about how each pick made it.

Caetano Veloso - Lost in the Paradise

“We love music from all around the world, and Caetano is one of our favorites from Brazil.”

The Critters - Awake In A Dream

“This song sounds like a lost single from the Beach Boys. Great harmonies, and California vibe.”

Lazy Smoke - Sarah Saturday

“Incredible 60s pop, despite the lo-fi recording, the song holds up great with its infectious rhythm and harmony that gets stuck in your head.”

West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band - Tracy Had A Hard Day Sunday

“We love psych music when its infused with jazz, and these guys do it great”

Caravan - Winter Wine

“Pink Floyd-esque organ led psych pop. gotta love the organ leads on this track and experimental jams throughout the song”

Rockin’ Horse - Yes It Is

“For fans of the Beatles, Jimmy Campbell is a great Liverpool songwriter, gotta check out Rockin’ Horse and any other project he was in.“

Ultimate Spinach - Some Days You Just Cant Win

“The titles says it all. this song eloquently expresses a common feeling that we all go through.”

Bob Lind - Theme From the Music Box

“A Profoundly lyrical song and artist that can floor you with the sincerity of his voice”

Giles, Giles & Fripp - How Do They Know

“If Syd Barret started a jazz group it would probably sound something like this. Again another great 60s psych band with elements of jazz. Pre King Crimson.”

George Harrison - In The First Place

“A pleasant continuation of the Beatles vibe we all know and love. Classic Harrison production.”

Keep up with Levitation Room and stream Headspace out everywhere.
