Total Eclipse of the Heart: A 2017 Solar Eclipse Playlist

By POND Staff

Today, Monday Aug. 21, the Earth will experience its first total solar eclipse since 1979. The temporary blackout, as defined by NASA, is when the moon casts two shadows -- one the umbra, and the other, the penumbra, and occurs when “one heavenly body such as a moon or planet moves into the shadow of another heavenly body.” It's the first total eclipse to cross the continental United States in 99 years, producing an otherworldly feat that is once in a lifetime.

Besides the obvious change in darkness, the eclipse also creates some other magical effects. If you look at the horizon you'll see a 360-degree band of sunrise and sunset colors all around you. Stars and planets, most noticeably Mercury,  will also poke out, creating a glittery afternoon sky. If you're also an avid horoscope reader and believer, the eclipse is said to stir things up spiritually and emotionally. So to get your body and mind in the mood, here's a playlist that will make all things supernatural.
