Modern Nomad: "What We Dig!" Playlist

Playlist and Writing by Thomas Mclean

Intro by Carl Pietrusinski

I first heard of Modern Nomad and their frontman, Thomas Mclean after he reached out to us regarding his newly released album, Road Trip, back in 2015. You may remember the first interview we did with him, where we talked about his first full-length album and his origins of making music. Then we caught back up with Tom last November, talking about the making of his EP and navigating the uncharted waters of marketing his music. He has recently released a new EP and is busy playing shows and trying to spread his music for all to hear. Read more about the making of his EP and check out his playlist, that inspires his songwriting below.

These are some of the songs I’ve had on repeat for the past two years or so. I have been recording and writing a lot recently, so I guess you can say these rub off on my sound.

I primarily recorded my new EP, “Nothing to Do”, in my basement and bedroom, demoing each song a couple of times, before choosing the final versions of each.  I did one song with engineer/producer Jamie Cerniglia at ZeroVU studios a few minutes down the street from my house. Jamie ended up mixing the whole thing which was a blessing. Then his friend Louie from Century 22 Productions in Long Beach mastered the whole thing for me. Every song on the EP sounds a lot different going from straight pop to psychedelic to acoustic alternative… kind of like this playlist.
